Tailwind UI (now Tailwind Plus) is a library of professionally designed, fully responsive components built with Tailwind CSS — marketing pages, application UI, and ecommerce layouts that developers can drop straight into their projects. Created by Adam Wathan, creator of Tailwind CSS, alongside designer Steve Schoger, it launched in 2020 and generated $500K in sales on day one, quickly growing into a multi-million dollar product built on top of the open-source Tailwind CSS framework. Revenue from Tailwind UI funds continued development of Tailwind CSS itself, making it one of the most recognizable examples of a profitable business built around an open-source tool.
